We’re Moving! … But Just Down the Road.

We’re excited to announce our new location and time for Charles River Church worship gatherings.  Beginning Sunday May 22, we will now be meeting weekly at the Boston School of Modern Languages next to the Roslindale Village commuter rail stop at 6pm. After a year in the auditorium of the West Roxbury Education Complex, the church will be meeting at the language school which owns and operates out of a vintage church building.  The new facility includes great classroom space for the church’s exciting River Kids program available for children from birth-5th grade during the Worship Gathering.  Kids will love church!  All are invited to attend on May 22 at 6pm: 814 South St Roslindale, MA 02131. www.TheCharlesRiverChurch.com

MARK: Pictures of Jesus

We’ve been digging into the book of Mark in 2011 at Charles River Church.  We are spending 16 weeks in the 16 chapters ending with the resurrection on Easter Sunday.  In the book of Mark we get snapshots of the life of Jesus and His journey to the cross for our redemption.  Join us for a Connection Group in the city as we dig deeper and find personal application mid-week.  For more info [CLICK HERE].

Bible Read Through

It’s that time of year again, time to make some new year’s resolutions.  Here’s a great one for you, how about reading through the Bible in a year? There are 1,189 chapters in the Bible. If you average 3.25 chapters per day, you can read it in one year. Charles River Church has put together a simple Bible read through plan for you. You’ll notice that this plan has no dates so that you don’t get bogged down by a sense of failure if you don’t stay on track or if you feel the need to slow down and meditate on, say, Leviticus. If it takes you well into 2012 to finish, don’t get down, rather celebrate that you read through it.  The point is that you have been with God in His Word and gaining an understanding of the flow of salvation history.  Print this  Bible Read Through guide, store it in your Bible, and mark out chapters as you read them.  You can do it!

The Response

I’ll never forget the first Christmas I spent with my wife’s family after we were married.  I  was stunned at the brutal honesty in how they responded to Christmas presents.  I’m one to pretend like I love the gift no matter what, but they would tell it like it is.  They would rip into a gift and pull out a shirt and say something like, “Oh…stripes… I look terrible in stripes.  But thanks anyway.”  I was shocked at first, but I’ve grown to appreciate it.

I love giving gifts and waiting for the response.  My kids will either go nuts over the gift, or throw it to the side and move on to the next.  This Christmas season, Jesus is THE gift, the free gift of God.   How will you respond to the incarnation?  We all respond.  Whether joy, gratitude, fake gratitude, worship, obedience, apathy, rejection, on and on.  How about you?   -Josh

Workshop Recap

We had a great Resume Building & Interviewing Workshop last week for the people of the Washington St Housing Complex in Roslindale Village. It can be difficult to find work in today’s economy, and many often feel like there’s no hope in sight. We were glad to help and provide some practical insights. Guest lecturer Eric Hartlen, retired VP of Human Resouces for a Fortune 500 company did a great job! We count it a privilege to serve these people and get to know their stories.
