Bible Read Through

It’s that time of year again, time to make some new year’s resolutions.  Here’s a great one for you, how about reading through the Bible in a year? There are 1,189 chapters in the Bible. If you average 3.25 chapters per day, you can read it in one year. Charles River Church has put together a simple Bible read through plan for you. You’ll notice that this plan has no dates so that you don’t get bogged down by a sense of failure if you don’t stay on track or if you feel the need to slow down and meditate on, say, Leviticus. If it takes you well into 2012 to finish, don’t get down, rather celebrate that you read through it.  The point is that you have been with God in His Word and gaining an understanding of the flow of salvation history.  Print this  Bible Read Through guide, store it in your Bible, and mark out chapters as you read them.  You can do it!

The Response

I’ll never forget the first Christmas I spent with my wife’s family after we were married.  I  was stunned at the brutal honesty in how they responded to Christmas presents.  I’m one to pretend like I love the gift no matter what, but they would tell it like it is.  They would rip into a gift and pull out a shirt and say something like, “Oh…stripes… I look terrible in stripes.  But thanks anyway.”  I was shocked at first, but I’ve grown to appreciate it.

I love giving gifts and waiting for the response.  My kids will either go nuts over the gift, or throw it to the side and move on to the next.  This Christmas season, Jesus is THE gift, the free gift of God.   How will you respond to the incarnation?  We all respond.  Whether joy, gratitude, fake gratitude, worship, obedience, apathy, rejection, on and on.  How about you?   -Josh

Workshop Recap

We had a great Resume Building & Interviewing Workshop last week for the people of the Washington St Housing Complex in Roslindale Village. It can be difficult to find work in today’s economy, and many often feel like there’s no hope in sight. We were glad to help and provide some practical insights. Guest lecturer Eric Hartlen, retired VP of Human Resouces for a Fortune 500 company did a great job! We count it a privilege to serve these people and get to know their stories.

Community Grand Opening

There was a ton of excitement at the West Roxbury Educational Complex yesterday as Charles River Church invited the community for our Community Grand Opening.  The morning started early as Reach Teams transformed the Education Complex into a church campus.  Around 9:30 the three Reach Teams finished set-up and gathered for their VIP meetings (Vision, Instruction, and Prayer).  By 10am worship was taking place in the auditorium, a local newspaper was interviewing people and taking pics, and all three River Kid’s classrooms were active with games, crafts, songs and Bible teaching.  After looking together at Jesus’ example and exchange in Matthew 20:20-28, meaningful connections were being made as people enjoyed fellowship over coffee and refreshments.  Most importantly, 3 people placed saving faith in Christ and several more expressed a desire to join the vision by plugging into Reach Teams and Connection Groups.
